It can open Guitar Pro, Power Tab Editor, TablEdit and MIDI files. TuxGuitar was written by Julián Casadesús and maintained by him for a very long time. At the end of 2022, the former TuxGuitar websites disappeared and the development in the [SourceForge repository](https://sourceforge.net/projects/tuxguitar/) stalled. After unsuccessful attempts to contact Julián, some TuxGuitar enthusiasts initiated a new [TuxGuitar repository](https://github.com/helge17/tuxguitar/) on GitHub. To install them, you must temporarily disable the digital signature verification of your operating system (called "disable Gatekeeper" on macOS, "allow installation from unknown sources" on Windows, "Sideloading" on Android). **Please note:** TuxGuitar versions 2.0.0 and later use a **new file format** which cannot be read by older versions. You can still export your tablatures in the old format so that you can open them with older versions of TuxGuitar.
